South Florida Fantasy Football tips
This is the time of year where the word “limbo” comes to mind. Of course I’m not referring to Dante’s Inferno’s 8th bolge of hell, but sports fans are actually facing something much worse these days: how to cope with a fairly mundane sports schedule. Yes, I know… We have the World Cup and MLB is in full swing; but let’s accept reality: The NBA Finals are over, and for football-hungry South Floridians, the NFL season cannot come soon enough. So here’s some tips to help you cope in the meantime.
1. Visit Fantasy Football Sites
Whether you’re in a league or not, rookie or veteran, now’s the time to scour the web to find some great fantasy sites where you can sign up, play and/or start preparing for the upcoming season. The most intriguing of them all appears to be NFL.com where they have just unveiled their brand new 2010 game and draft tools. Another worth exploring is Fanball.com which offers a variety of games, tools, articles, and even a 24/7 season-long advice service. Now, If you’re interested in entering a contest where you can gain national recognition for being one of the best (and a potential nice payout), I recommend researching 2 of the majors: The World Championship of Fantasy Football at wcoff.com; and The National Fantasy Football Championship at nffc.fanball.com. And in my humble opinion, if you just want to play FF with a group of friends, or even people you’ve never met, the best onsite venues may still be Sportsline.com, ESPN.com, and Yahoo.com.

Construction in Aventura
Take a quick look at the official Aventura website and you’ll discover many budget reports outlining repairs. Here’s a link to a budget overview - http://www.cityofaventura.com/AR2009/Budget.pdf There was over one million in federal stimulus dollars that’s being used for Exercise Trail improvements amongst other road repairs. The city is doing a great job at these improvements. There was an amazing repair done to Williams Island Blvd. on 183rd Street - complete resurfacing and redirecting a flow of traffic. For many years the construction around town was by developers, now the city is focusing on the local needs. It’s a refreshing change and will only continue to improve Aventura.

Starbucks Rap Video
The local crowd in Aventura hangs out at Starbucks. There are several spots around Aventura that pour Starbucks coffee and offer the Starbucks experience. These include Starbucks locations and the kiosk in the Aventura Mall as well as the cafe in Barnes and Noble. Many residents have made Starbucks a part of their everyday routine, they’re known as regulars. The other day I visited the Starbucks in the Fresh Market plaza on the South side of Aventura. This Starbucks location was recently remodeled and it looks amazing.

Floods in Aventura?
Every time it rains Aventura gets flooded, a life jacket is a must. The parking lots at most plazas become a car trap. Biscayne also is a nightmare. It seems it would have been more sensible to spend funds on fixing these road issues than working on the exercise trail. Likely the flooding problems are occurring mostly on private property, so the city won’t get involved. Anyway, it’s just a huge problem that should be addressed by our residents and landlords. It’s Florida and rain is expected. Let’s get prepared. Remember to be extra careful when driving, the roads are saturated with water.
